National Vocational Qualifications

NVQ2 in Business and Administration (Award/Certificate/Diploma)

This qualification offers a wide variety of progression routes to suit both the general administrator as well as those working in specialist roles such as court clerk or HR administrator. The focus is on developing and recognising the skills necessary to set up and improve administration systems, organise meetings and organise travel. Specialist ICT units are also available to support areas of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

NVQ3 Business and Administration (Certificate/Diploma)

This qualification is for those working at higher levels in areas such as information management, project management, research and reporting, negotiating budgets and recruitment. It seeks to recognise and further develop transferable supervisory and/or managerial skills possibly gained at level 2. It is suitable for learners who are routinely involved in applying their knowledge and skills whilst carrying out a broad range of varied work activities. Their job role will usually have considerable autonomy and responsibility, and often requires them to supervise or manage others as part of a team.

NVQ2 Customer Service (Award/Certificate)

This qualification seeks to recognise and develop the various skills required to successfully deliver customer services. It focuses on improving services through identifying and implementing changes in order to improve customer service skills.

NVQ3 Customer Service (Diploma)

The qualification is suitable for those who are working at higher levels in a Customer Service role. It is for learners who are routinely involved in applying their knowledge and skills whilst carrying out a broad range of varied work activities. Their job role will usually have considerable autonomy and responsibility, and often require them to supervise or manage others as part of a team. The Level 3 syllabus incorporates and develops existing knowledge and understanding possibly gained at Level 2 and focuses on five topic areas:

  • The Developing Role of Customer Service
  • Delivering Reliable Service
  • Communicating with Internal and External Customers
  • Handling and Solving Customer Complaints and Prob¬lems
  • Influencing Improvement and Effective Change

The award focuses on the skills necessary to lead and support a customer service team.

NVQ3 Advice and Guidance (Award)

The level 3 programme in Advice and Guidance is suitable for those who work directly with clients, providing advice, disseminating information and offering guidance. They will often be working within clear guidelines dealing with information that often needs to be adapted and interpreted for the client. It is relevant to those employed in, for example, career advice and guidance, the Connexions Service, youth work and youth justice, housing and IAG partnerships.

Course Duration: Delivered over 10 to 16 weeks, the NVQ is normally delivered as a bespoke qualification beginning with a 3 day tutor led training session followed by a 2 day work based observation of practice. Some private study is also required. Read more
