Background

R & B Industrial Ltd is based in Andover and manufactures, installs and maintains filtration and ventilation systems.

Safety in the workplace is paramount, and Project Manager Stuart Wahnon recently completed the IOSH Managing Safely course to ensure that he was up to speed with best practise. Stuart took advantage of the Andover Skills Fund for small businesses and will be re-claiming the cost in full from Test Valley Borough Council.

All managers need to ensure that the workplace is compliant with health and safety regulations, and the IOSH accredited course covers all aspect s of managing a safe working environment.

The four day course covers risk assessment, identifying hazards and protecting the working environment. Having completed the course, managers will have a good understanding of Health & safety legislation, recognise common hazards in the workplace and know the legal requirements for risk assessments.

Outcome

After successfully completing the course Stuart said, “I found the course very useful and relevant to my job. It was very interesting with practical exercises and the trainer was excellent.”

“I have already used the knowledge I gained on the course to complete a fire risk assessment for our workshop which covered sourcing the correct fire extinguishers, drawing up a maintenance schedule for all my equipment, including electrical and PAT testing maintenance.”

To pass the course, Stuart had to complete a written assessment and a short project.

Stuart was presented with his Certificate of Achievement by Course Trainer Steve Lacey at PDM’s training centre in Andover.
