National Vocational Qualifications

TRAINING, ASSESSMENT AND INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE (TAQA)

These Awards are for staff that are working in, or seeking to gain entry to roles in assessment and internal quality assurance. They have been designed to replace the existing A1 Assessors award and the V1 Internal Verifiers award.

Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment

This award is the direct replacement for the A1 award and it is for practitioners that assess competence - specifically those delivering competence based awards such as NVQs. In order to undertake this programme of learning, learners must have regular access to a minimum of 2 candidates engaged on an NVQ programme so that their competence can be assessed performing the assessor role - learners will be assessed as they assess their own NVQ candidates. 

Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment

This award provides the necessary understanding of the assessment process and will assist in planning and processing assessment practices.

Course Duration: combined and delivered over 6 to 9 months, the NVQ is normally delivered as a bespoke qualification beginning with a 2 day tutor led training session followed by work based observation of practice. Private study is also required.

Where a learner is required to also assess knowledge and or skills in a specialist related subject such as a BTEC, VRQ or other technical award they should also undertake the;

Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement

This award is for practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in a vocationally related subject i.e. VRQ or BTECs/technical awards. This award can be undertaken as a standalone qualification or more routinely be combined with the other suite of awards to achieve the;

Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

This qualification is made up of all three awards above and is for practitioners that assess in all the areas described.

Course Duration: All combined and delivered over 6 to 9 months beginning with a 2 day tutor led training session followed by work based observation of practice. Private study is also required.

Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (old V1)

This is the direct replacement for the V1 award and is for practitioners who conduct Internal Quality Assurance of the assessment process from within a centre or organisation by sampling, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors. In order to undertake this programme of learning, learners must already hold the Level 3 Award of Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (old A1) and have regular access to assessors and candidates engaged on an NVQ programme so that their competence can be assessed performing the verifier role - learners will be assessed as they work with their own assessors and candidates. Those undertaking this award would usually simultaneously undertake the;

Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

This award is for those who are starting their journey as an internal quality assurance practitioner or for those who need to know about the internal quality assurance process but who are not carrying out the role themselves.

Course Duration: Combined and delivered 3 days, the NVQ is normally delivered as a bespoke qualification beginning with a tutor led training session followed by work based observation of practice. Private study is also required.

Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

This qualification is made up of the two awards above plus a Management Level 4 unit; (Plan, Allocate and Monitor work in your own area of responsibility). It is aimed at practitioners who lead the internal quality assurance process within a centre/organisation and have a responsibility for managing the quality of the assessment process, practice and the performance of assessors. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding bodies.

Course Duration: All combined and delivered over 6 to 9 months; the NVQ is normally delivered as a bespoke qualification beginning with a 2 day tutor led training session followed by work based observation of practice. Private study is required.

Level 3 NVQ Advice and Guidance (Certificate/Diploma)

The level 3 programme in Advice and Guidance is suitable for those that work directly with clients, providing advice, disseminating information and offering guidance. They will often be working within clear guidelines dealing with information that often needs to be adapted and interpreted for the client. It is relevant to those employed in, for example, career advice and guidance, the Connexions Service, youth work and youth justice, housing and IAG partnerships.

Course Duration: Delivered over 3 to 4 days, the NVQ is normally delivered as a bespoke qualification beginning with a tutor led training session followed by a 2 day work based observation of practice. Some private study is also required.
