NVQs are vocational in nature, meaning that the emphasis is on accrediting and developing professional standards and skills in the work place. Qualifications can be undertaken in a wide range of subjects. NVQs routinely consist of workplace assessment, some guided learning and collation of evidence to demonstrate competency; some private study may also be required. The amount of time required for completing NVQs is dictated by the level of the qualification being undertaken. PDM offers a comprehensive range of industry recognised NVQ training courses and qualifications including: Business Support, Leadership & Management, Learning & Development, Transport, Logistics and Security. PDM is adept in the delivery of flexible, multi-site NVQ training services all of which are delivered in the workplace.

  • Level 2

  • Level 3

Responsibility for the work of others and the allocation of resources is often present.

  • Level 5

Very substantial personal autonomy and often significant responsibility for the work of others and for the allocation of substantial resources features strongly, as do personal accountabilities for analysis, diagnosis, design, planning, execution and evaluation.

Who are NVQ's for?

NVQs provide recognised and approved training and development courses for those that have been in workplace for some time and also for new entrants to a sector however, to undertake a specific NVQ an individual must actually be employed in a role which allows them to generate the necessary performance evidence for the qualification they are undertaking.

Utility and Flexibility

Many companies use NVQ programmes, often in conjunction with Apprenticeships, as a vehicle for inducting, developing and supporting new entrants to their business. PDM’s training can readily be tailored to meet the specific requirements of a broad range of occupational sectors and its full range of ‘short’ BTEC training courses can also be used to embed the knowledge and skills necessary to underpin and support a variety of NVQs.

NVQ programmes and Apprenticeships can be used to benchmark, validate and demonstrate the professional standards of a company and/or individual members of staff.

Cost of NVQ's

When undertaken the NVQ as part of an Apprenticeship Framework, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria, the qualifications can be fully or co-funded by the government (16 – 18 year olds are fully funded) and so training costs can be substantially reduced. Standalone NVQ costs are dictated by the level of qualification being undertaken, the funding eligibility of the learner, the delivery model and subject to final agreement with the employer.

Why take an NVQ?

Better training can provide an organisation with a competitive advantage over others in the same industry/sector. In business, the main source of an organisation’s income is the expertise and skills of its personnel. Recruiting professionals with high levels of skills can be far more expensive than training and developing existing employees to work at higher levels. Formal training is also a fundamental requirement for new employees; proper training helps them to understand the job requirements and their responsibilities quickly and effectively. Training also increases understanding of the organisational culture and training programmes can significantly increase and improve communication between different levels of an organisation and thereby increase staff loyalty and commitment. High employee turnover can be a serious threat to an organisation and one major benefit of training is that it can reduce staff turnover and improve retention.
