Training Design and Delivery
Training Design

Training is defined as an activity that aims to impart the specific skills, knowledge and attitudes required by an individual in order to perform a task or job.

Training Design is a core capability at PDM and we have highly trained, specialist designers with experience in the both the defence and commercial sectors.  Training Design is a stage in the development of training and involves the following key stages:
  • Event Design – the culmination of research and planning to meet the objective.
  • Event Walkthrough – a trial run to ensure that the objective can be met.
  • Pilot – an event trial run with students to confirm content and timings.
  • Course Approval – confirmation that the course meets the client’s requirements.

A thoroughly researched Course Design content with quality input from highly experienced Subject Matter Experts ensures that clients receive the most efficient and cost effective training programmes, on time and to budget.

Value for Money, Increased Productivity and Enhanced Efficiency

  • Cost benefit analysis of the training options are much more accurate. Over training or under training is avoided, increasing efficiency and reducing cost.
  • Auditable decision making process provides managers with greater confidence in the training solution, which enhances “buy-in”.
  • The process of analysing group and individual tasks reduces the likelihood of critical tasks being omitted, which might result in lost productivity.
  • Options for introducing modern training methods utilising the latest learning technologies can be included.

Benefits of using PDM

  • Analysing operational tasks and measuring the gap in knowledge, skills and attitudes is PDM’s core business.
  • Breadth and depth of knowledge of current and emerging training practices, experience in scenario planning and process mapping to support the implementation of change.
  • Access to Subject Matter Experts (SME) on Computer Based Training (CBT), e-learning and simulation, who can provide essential input to the cost benefit analysis regarding the effectiveness of different training methods and media.
  • Dedicated, independent analysts experienced in conducting and managing TNA projects, which is key to maintaining momentum within the project and ensures that work is completed on time and within costs.
  • Solutions will be based on scientific analysis and learning psychology.

Training Delivery

PDM has an excellent track record as a first class deliverer of training to a wide range of clients.  Training can be defined as the process by which people acquire new skills or knowledge for the purpose of enhancing performance.  The purpose of training is to produce efficient, timely and cost effective learning that has been tailored to meet the identified need.  Activities must be well managed, relevant, and accessible and must utilise new technologies in innovative ways.
The delivery phase of training is when the coordination, assessment of learning needs, design, and development phases come together.  Successful training delivery depends on:
  • Accurate identification of participants' training needs.
  • A carefully crafted training plan.
  • Well-managed training details.
  • Thorough and relevant materials.
  • A prepared trainer, ready to present a compelling learning experience.

There are, of course, a wide variety of instructional methods including: presentation, skills practice, and e-learning; each one designed to meet a particular need in a specific situation or context.  For example, training can be delivered in a classroom, on the job or remotely.  In addition, careful account must be taken of different learning styles and all of this presents a challenge to deliver training to meet sometimes complex objectives.

Benefits of Using PDM

PDM prides itself on its ability to be a single source provider of the complete range of training activities:

  • PDM has a successful track record of delivering training for a variety of clients that include MoD, Oshkosh Trucks, Network Rail and the Highways Agency.
  • All PDM trainers are Subject Matter Experts (SME) and always know what they are talking about rather than reading directly from pre-prepared notes.  This also means they are able to tackle on the spot issues that a generic trainer may not be able to understand or deal with correctly.  All of our trainers have an armed forces background, have security clearance, and are used to working with a broad range of student ability levels.  In short, their credibility is unquestionable.
  • PDM is able to take a strategic view of training requirements to ensure they are consistent and fully integrated with client’s needs and systems.  Working with the client from scoping, Training Needs Analysis (TNA), development of training courses and material, incorporating the latest delivery technologies, provides the client with tailored training, exactly where and how they require it.
  • Working with the client in this way gives them confidence that their training solution is cost effective, efficient, timely and well managed.
PDM is always on hand to ensure that any solution it recommends works and works well.
